Oddly, as 2023 was set as the landmark of hip-hop reaching its 50th anniversary, the culture comes out of celebrating to face the next 50 years of trials and tribulations.
Can hip-hop make someone a billionaire or even a simple millionaire? Does hip-hop have any goals for a set mission? Where does hip-hop start to clean up the culture? Is this a true sustainable career? What is the evolution of hip-hop culture? Where does DFW stand on hip-hop and the whole rap culture? How can Dallas College and the Richland campus assist in grooming students who wish to become financially successful musicians?
Let’s be realistic. Most would say it’s close to impossible. Those who say that tend to address the culture from an artist-with-only-talent viewpoint; artists needing labels with all the business experience, resources and under-standing of how to groom a musician.
Times change and the views must change too. So much that kids’ artistic skills may suffocate from their parents’ old views failing to update with time. Technology has crushed the old ways of doing things in this new era. Music technology is here and plays a major factor while challenging a permeative way of thinking. The culture views as a whole, outside opinions and views must address it as that.
Welcome to the next 50 years of hip-hop, Round 2. Yes, understanding and investing in this culture can be lucrative. Making music is not only a beautiful art but it’s also a business.
Whether it’s early on in life or a career change, hip-hop culture has many opportunities and benefits. Someone who obtains the proper training and education will have an advantage whether it is pursued from a music business standpoint or an artist of the business standpoint. Having business skills, along with fine tune talent, with a great work ethic can really put someone in a great position for success.
Where does someone start on a journey as an aspiring musician with a craving for success through hip-hop? The Richland campus at Dallas College is a great place to start if you are a student. As the future of Round 2 is young. The question is who will shape the next 50 years of hip-hop? Some worry who will be the face of hip-hop. There are many questions to be answered. Understanding music technology and learning how to stay up to date may require more education than in the past. Welcome to Round 2, the next 50 years of hip-hop.
