As students return to classes, or begin the first semester, there will be many things around campus that are new to the eye. From tree farming to new sleek modern furniture, Richland is upgrading corners of the campus as we settle into the fall semester.
The renovations start with new trees being added to the list of Richland’s newest greenery. On the edge of Parking Lot D, near the DART bus stop, the tree farm is being upgraded this summer.
On the opposite end of campus, there is new concrete installed that is providing a cleaner look that extends from the steps outside the Learning Commons to Parking Lot W. Additionally, new backless seating area surrounded by trees by Parking Lot W can be enjoyed by anyone basking in the summer heat.
Inside, rooms and campus halls have not gone untouched this summer: the Learning Commons is debuting almost a complete transformation from last year’s layout and interior design. With new blue and grey color coordination furniture and new extended seating areas, students may have an easier, more eye-pleasing time trying to find a study spot during finals week.
The new polished furnishings are not just restricted to the Learning Commons. They can be seen across buildings all over campus with multi-use cozy sitting spaces for a quick study session or socializing with friends after class.
While these changes are exciting, however, this project may not be as much of a quick change as previous construction around campus.
“This probably has been going on for five-six months and it can take anywhere from six months to a year,” said Vincent Tyler, a worker involved in the tree project.
While we gear up for a new chapter in our academic journey, new and improved areas around campus are open for exploration and leisure throughout the semester.
