American tennis star Frances Tiafoe held the first activation of his fund partnership with the USTA Feb. 6. The 26-year-old often referred to as “Big Foe” on the court, partnered with the USTA last July to create the Frances Tiafoe Fund. Serena Williams wins first round of US Open

All eyes were centered on tennis legend Serena Williams who at 40 years old previously announced her retirement from tennis following her final Grand Slam U.S. Open tournament at Flushing Meadows, New York. She clarified the word "retirement" as told by The Guardian newspaper as an "evolution" away from tennis.

"I have never liked the word retirement. Maybe the best word to describe what I'm up to is evolution. I'm here to tell you that I'm evolving away from tennis, toward other things that are important to me," she said

Nadal wins 21st Grand Slam, Barty remains top ranked woman

The 2022 Australian Open was spectacular in which current world No. 1 Ashleigh Barty beat American Danielle Collins while sixth ranked Rafael Nadal outlasted second seeded and 2021 US Open Champion Daniil Medvedev. Top players Venus and Serena Williams, Roger Federer and 2020 US Open Champion Dominic Theim were unable to participate due to injuries.

Another top player, Novak Djokovic, was not allowed to participate in the Open tournament for failing to meet the country’s specific vaccination requirements for entry, according to the Associated Press. He was found to be unvaccinated despite being granted a medical exemption by a team of Australian doctors after Djokovic claimed he tested positive in late December, according to the Associated Press. Djokovic was deported from Australia on Jan. 16.
