As the fall semester comes to a close and winter break starts, this could be an ideal time for some to get a head start on those transfer applications. This can be an intimidating, time consuming process, especially for those who have not gone through it before. Career and Transfer Services, located in E090, offers services to help with the difficult and maybe stressful process that is transferring to a new school.
To learn a little more about how this department is resourceful for students, Career and Transfer Skills Development Specialist Kellie Hartford spoke about their services.
“We can help students who are at any different kind of point on their transfer journey, whether a student is at the point where they just know they want to transfer but they don’t even know what they want to major in or where they want to go.”
Students can be anywhere in their transfer process, and Career and Transfer Services is here to help.
“We can assist that student by talking through career choices by using career assessments like Lightcast and then going into the actual transfer process. We help the students by one-on-one appointments, helping them by looking at how their courses transfer to universities.”
This department even offers college tours. Giving students the chance to explore potential application options and find what is right for them.
“We have several bus trips through each semester. Some are just one day where you pop over and visit. We even have some trips that are overnight that require hotel stays. Wherever a student is we just try to meet them where they are at and go through the process together. Really it is about helping the student make up their own mind,” Hartford said.
She added some advice and words of encouragement.
“Most students I think are actually surprised at how easy the process is. I would say the timeline is one of the biggest hangups as it relates to actual time and when they are applying.”
Overall, Career and Transfer Services is used by many to aid in jumpstarting their career or transferring to a university.
With a great amount of experience in their field, the professionals are here to welcome all students with open arms and help wherever it is needed.
