Offense gives T-Ducks baseball a win over Cedar Valley

Richland’s Thunderducks baseball team defeated the Cedar Valley Suns 15-11 at Richland on March 25. A seven-run rally in the third inning was enough for the team coached by Jimmy Brenneman to get the win. The T-Ducks were up 11-0 in the first third of the game and it seemed that the victory could be smooth. However, Cedar Valley would not give up so easily.

The Richland Campus men’s baseball team is off to a fast start, winning five games out of the first seven this season. While it is true the season is just beginning, it is very important to accumulate as many wins as possible in order to qualify for the playoffs. The season consists of 56 games. First pitch was on Jan. 27. The season is scheduled to end on May 6. The Thunderducks participate in the DAC Conference with Dallas College campuses Eastfield, Cedar Valley, Mountain View, Brookhaven and North Lake. There are two regional conferences and the top six teams qualify for the postseason, in which any team that loses two games will be eliminated.
After 12 years at Richland, Athletic Director and head baseball coach Guy Simmons is retiring.

After 12 years on Richland Campus, Guy Simmons, athletic director and head coach of the baseball team, has retired.

Simmons said the decision to step away from the Richland athletic department is due to family issues, but he also wants to find new paths in his life.

Richland baseball player makes college decision

Casey Fowler, sophomore on the Richland baseball team, committed to continue his academic and baseball career at St. Edwards University in Austin.

Fowler announced his decision on Twitter on March 29. “I’m very excited to announce my commitment to St. Edwards University to continue my baseball and academic career,” Fowler said. “I would like to thank God, my family and friends as well as my coaches for helping me get here.”

T-Ducks baseball suffers a substantial defeat

April 6, 2022

Richland had a conference series match-up and were hosted by the Blazers. Heading into the game, the T-Ducks lost the last two games in a row against the Blazers in a three-game series but had hopes of getting out of their slump with a win.

Richland got off to a good start, getting a run on the scoreboard in the first inning. They also held the Blazers in check until the bottom of the third.

T-Ducks baseball strikes a win

March 23, 2022

The Richland baseball team defeated Rock Valley College 11-10 in a high scoring squeaker March 7 in a non-conference game at home. With the win, the T-Ducks improved to 17-5 on the season and are on a 15-game winning streak.

The game was the conclusion of a three- game series between the two teams. Richland won both games on March 6 and completed the sweep in game three.

T-Ducks baseball team defeats Mountain View

March 8, 2022

The Richland baseball team combined strong pitching and timely offense to take their conference opener 3-2 at home against Mountain View on Feb. 21.

The pitching from both sides shined in this one as fans were treated to a classic pitcher’s duel. The game did not start like that, though. Mountain View got out to a quick start scoring in the first inning.

T-Duck baseball team drops both games of doubleheader

February 17, 2022

The Richland baseball Thunderducks lost both games of their Feb. 9 doubleheader at home against the Cisco College Wranglers 10-0 and 7-6, respectively.

The Cisco offense was dominant in Game 1, scoring at least 10 runs in five innings. Cisco scored two runs in each of the second, third and fourth innings and scored four more in the fifth.

Richland threatened early on offense but were unable to score despite a two-out double by Cam Diaz. The Cisco pitchers had their way in the game limiting Richland to only two hits and allowing no runs.

T-Ducks baseball strikes a win

February 2, 2022

The Richland Thunderducks baseball team (2-0) kicked off their 2022 season at home with a pair of wins in their Jan. 26 afternoon doubleheader against DFW Postgrad by a score of 6-2 and 9-1, respectively.

The Thunderducks got off to a quick start in Game 2 offensively, plating two runs in the bottom of the first inning. DFW Postgrad scored one run in the top of the fourth inning and then were shut out the rest of the game. Richland answered by scoring seven more runs unanswered, highlighted by a five-run bottom of the fourth.
