Richland clubs raise funds with love

Student organizations hold Valentine’s Day fundraiser

Dallas College’s student body celebrated Valentine’s Day in a unique way this year.

Various Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) participated in a fundraiser organized by OSLE in the El Paso Student Lounge.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., students gathered to support their favorite clubs while enjoying a range of activities and treats.

Each RSO set up a table to showcase their fundraiser. It was an opportunity for clubs to generate funds for future events and projects.
To participate, club members had to complete a few administrative steps, including filling out paperwork available on SharePoint.
The event featured diverse fundraising activities. Some of these included the Philosophy Club, embracing the romantic spirit of Valentine’s Day, offering roses and pink and red pillows for sale.
Meanwhile, the Anime Club sold handmade friendship bracelets, and the Muslim Student Association organized a Pie-in-the-Face activity.
The fundraiser not only provided financial support for RSOs but also facilitated community building and engagement among Dallas College students.
The only downside of the event was the impracticality of Valentine’s Day falling on the same day as Ash Wednesday.
“I think the turnout was disappointing for the clubs, but it’s understandable because we knew there was going to be conflicts with church”, said Kelly Sonnanstine, coordinator of Student Life, said after the event.
