If there is one belief that I stand firmly behind, it’s that sweet treats are never out of season, and the list below is here to help you find your next favorite. Whether you’re looking for a delicious ice cream cone on a hot, sunny day, a decadent cake, or a high-end pastry made with only the most premium ingredients, there is an offering for every dessert lover around, with some only a few minutes away from campus. The scorching summer heat may be coming to an end, but these desserts are sure to keep you coming back.
Le Rêve Gelato & Patisserie (12817 Preston Rd, Dallas)
By far my favorite sweet treat in Dallas is the “cheesecake aux myrtilles”, which is a blueberry cheesecake tart. This delicious treat is layered with blueberry mousse, blueberry cream cheese and blueberry preserve. It’s all on a cookie-like crust that ties the whole dessert together with a smooth blueberry taste.
Jeni’s Ice Creams (2012 Greenville Ave, Dallas)
Jeni’s has multiple Dallas locations, and you can even find it in supermarkets around the city. My personal favorite is the gooey butter cake. It’s great on it’s own, but it gets even better when paired with the brambleberry crisp. Jeni’s offers many flavors, with most of them being flavors not heard of in other brands such as wild berry lavender and popcorn brittle.
BigDash Ice Cream Pastries (888 S Greenville Ave, Ste 140, Richardson)
Big Dash has been my go-to sweet treat spot for quite some time now. They have a large variety of Arabic desserts with the tres leches cake being my favorite. Soaked in a sweet milk mixture and topped with sweet caramel, this cake is one of the best tres leches out there.
85C Bakery Café (400 N Greenville Ave, Ste 9, Richardson):
85C is perfect for sweet treats on a budget. It was difficult to select a favorite, but the Hokkaido custard bun made the top of the list. It has a sweet whipped filling, vanilla custard and powdered sugar all in a fluffy bun.
Bahama Buck’s (6780 Abram’s Rd, Ste 107, Dallas)
By far, the best snow cone I have ever had is from Bahama Buck’s. The snow cone was coconut flavored, layered with ice cream and topped with condensed milk. This combination complimented all of the flavors very well and made for a perfect summer treat.
