Louisiana Famous Fried Chicken is known to pack a flavorful punch in its crispy fried chicken. Originally started with owner Joe Dion in 1976 in California, this restaurant chain is still seeing success to this day. Dion spent many years experimenting in his garage to curate the perfect fried chicken recipe. The restaurant offers many different entrees and side options full of flavor such as fish, gumbo, shrimp and hush puppies. Along with this, they also offer many options for chicken. Serving up nuggets, tenders, thighs, wings and more, Louisiana Famous Fried Chicken is sure to satisfy you every time.
Starting with the most popular at the Dallas location at 9751 Walnut St., we tried the chicken tenders. The most noticeable aspect of these tenders was how both the breading and the chicken itself contained so much flavor. With a lot of other chicken establishments, you will find flavoring in either the breading or chicken, not both. The chicken also has a bit of spice and a strong pepper taste that is more noticeable after a few seconds. This along with the flavor were noticeable details in the tenders that made it so delicious.
The potato salad was Taylor’s personal favorite of the whole meal.
The balance between sweet and savory made it some of the best potato salad Taylor’s ever had. It also had pickles which complimented the flavors well. When Taylor goes back to Louisiana Famous Fried Chicken, this potato salad is sure to be a repeat buy from her.
As expected, the chicken tenders came with a classic side, french fries.
While they were freshly made and well-seasoned, they didn’t stand out in any way. They complemented the chicken well but wouldn’t be our first choice as a standalone order. Overall, we gave the French fries a C rating.
One of the many sides offered at Louisiana Famous Fried Chicken, is coleslaw. The coleslaw here was one of Jillian’s favorite items. It had a great balance of tangy, creamy and slightly sweet flavors. The finely diced carrots and shredded cabbage allowed the dressing to shine without being overpowered by the vegetables. We ended up giving this item an A rating.
The final item we tried was the mac and cheese. This was by far the best side. It was perfectly creamy, without being too firm or runny.
They used macaroni noodles so that the cheesy sauce could melt inside the noodles as well as on top. This detail made it so the mac and cheese is flavorful all the way around and not just on the outside of the noodle. We decided that the mac and cheese should be given an A+ rating.
Overall the location of Louisiana Famous Fried Chicken is very convenient for students and staff as it is right off campus on Walnut Street and Audelia Road. The food was made fast and fresh, and if you don’t like waiting they have options for online ordering and pickup. This restaurant is solely a takeout establishment so, they do not have a dining room, just a counter to order and pick up your food. Because of this the customer service was very limited but still friendly and enjoyable.
