The Richland Campus hangout room is located in the El Paso cafeteria. It provides various games and activities. Students are permitted to bring their own gaming stations for shared participation. The room offers an environment for students to socialize and de-stress.
Students utilize the available televisions for gaming, including cooperative games such as Super Smash Bros. Students are encouraged to bring their own games or gaming stations.
“It’s stressless, and I make new friends and meet really cool people,” said Ahmed, a Dallas College student.
Students gather in the room for stress-relieving activities and to support their mental health during periods of high stress, such as midterms. The room is accessible to students at no cost during campus operating hours.
“I like the people more than the activities and prefer to talk to others,” said Abdykerin, another student.
Construction, including new windows, walls and a door, has resulted in complaints regarding the lack of air conditioning in the enclosed room. The new wall was constructed to reduce noise and contain activity within the room, allowing others to eat and study in the cafeteria. Students experiencing issues with room temperature are advised to contact someone at the Student Life office, who will then contact facilities to address the air conditioning.
Students can borrow gaming equipment, such as pool and Ping-Pong equipment. A form must be completed and a student ID presented to ensure the equipment’s proper use.
A liability form is also required. Students are responsible for replacing any damaged equipment. Policies are enforced to maintain equipment integrity.
