“Dr. No” (1962) –This is the one that started it all. In this gem, Sean Connery is James Bond, Agent 007, who works for the British government as both a spy and liaison for Her Majesty’s secret service. Grade: A
“Goldfinger” (1964) – Connery’s second outing as James Bond finds him at odds with Gert Fröbe’s title character, Auric Goldfinger, who laces his victims with pure gold rather than just dust. Grade A-
“The Untouchables” (1987) – Connery won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar as Jimmy Malone, one of the untouchables of the title. The screenplay for this great crime drama was written by one of my favorite writers, David Mamet, and directed by the always amazing Brian De Palma. Grade A+
“The Hunt for Red October” (1990) – In this high seas thriller based on the Tom Clancy novel, Connery’s Russian submarine captain, Marko Ramius, wants to defect to the USA. Alec Baldwin is awesome as analyst Jack Ryan. Grade A+
“The Rock” (1996) – In this Michael Bay-directed tale, Connery’s John Patrick Mason character is the only person to have escaped from Alcatraz. With Nicolas Cage and Ed Harris. Grade B+
