Many residents from across North Texas gathered in Plano on Jan. 12 for a packed campaign event at the Plano Event Center.
It was hosted by Democratic U.S. Senate candidate James Talarico.
Talarico is competing primarily against Dallas congresswoman Jasmine Crockett for the Democratic nomination.
As both fight to attract voters before the March 3 Texas primary approaches, Talarico said, “Over 2,000 people attended the standing-room-only town hall event because we are building a movement right here in Texas, with 40 block walking events held across 20 cities.”
Talarico additionally highlighted his past experience in public schools and spoke about how it would impact his policies in the U.S. Senate.
“As a past teacher, I know what it means to fight and to win because the only thing better than a fighter is a winner, and we need that in this state more than we’ve ever needed it before.”
Talarico also spoke to members in the town hall meeting about the importance of reaching out to all voters across the state.
“We’re not writing off any voters. We’re not writing off any community. I’m talking to everyone, people who consider themselves Democrats, and even independents. Yes, even people consider themselves disillusioned Republicans. I’m talking to young people who are sick and tired of politics as usual and feel that the system is hopelessly corrupt.”
Talarico also said, “Politics is a team sport, and we’re going to win this race together. So, if you’re fighting and you’re ready to win, you have a place in this campaign.”
Speaking on artificial intelligence, Talarico addressed the need to have public regulation and oversight to curb its negative impact. He pointed out how corporations and billionaires have the power to actively transforming how we view, learn, and communicate with each other.
“Politics is another word for how we treat our neighbors, and we should treat each other better than this. They may have the money, but we have the majority,” said Talarico.
“The real fight is not about left versus right. It’s top versus bottom.”
“Fight the system, not your neighbor,” Talarico said, “The real divide is economic rather than policy.”
Talarico said, “Electing an educator to the Senate, as a sneak peek, I propose to repeal the $3 trillion we gave to the wealthiest Americans in the Trump tax cuts, as we can afford to pay every single teacher at least a $100,000 a year.
“This is the land of opportunity, that this is where dreams can come true,” Talarico said.
“While our country is watching numerous ICE operations and arrests across the nation, “The fact is that this government is targeting our undocumented neighbors, which should be a moral outrage to all of us.”
