My list of Top 10 movies of 2025 were published in the Dec. 9 issue of the Richland Chronicle.
However, there are additional movies that didn’t quite make the Top 10 that I highly recommend. I have five of them listed them below.
The first one is “The Life of Chuck” starring Tom Hiddleston, Jacob Tremblay, Benjamin Pajak and Mark Hamill.
This sci-fi fantasy was quirky, engaging and an enjoyment all at the same time. I left smiling after this tale about the day-to-day life of one person, i.e. Chuck (Hiddleston).
Grade: A
“The Monkey,” starring Theo James and based on a Stephen King short story, is an enthralling and quite creepy suspense-thriller-horror about a primate gone rogue.
Horror films are not my cup of tea, but I took this one for the readers of the paper.
Grade: A-
“Sorry, Baby,” written, directed and starring first-time feature filmmaker Eva Victor, shows with this comedy-drama that she knows how to make a compelling, sentimental movie right out of the gate. It’s about moving on in life (and adopting a comforting, feral cat).
Grade: B+
“Sentimental Value,” which I also liked very much, is a sentimental drama about the goings on in a family in everyday life. Stellan Skarsgård, who co-stars with Elle Fanning, took home a Golden Globe supporting actor award on Jan. 11.
Grade: A
“The Legend of Ochi” is a joyful, delightful fantasy that I really liked. Helena Zengel plays Yuri, a shy little girl that befriends a creature separated from its mother. Willem Dafoe portrays her father Maxim and he’s outstanding.
Grade: A
