As the fall semester comes to an end, winter break steps in to take its place.
It marks the light at the end of a challenging semester; a moment for students to step back and reflect on their progress.
The final days of the fall semester are drawing to a close, marked by students at Dallas College preparing for final exams through intense study sessions alongside last minute assignment submissions. The long anticipated brisk, chilly days of winter await ahead, with a majority glad to take a break and start the period with a fresh, clean slate.
However, the call for productivity does not stop at the semester’s end. For many, win-ter break provides an opportunity to pursue personal goals that couldn’t be achieved during the fall.
For Marcus Miranda, the commander of the SPACE program, winter break involves prioritizing health and wellness. “After finals are done, I plan on going to the gym, working on my jiu-jitsu, and backpacking,” Miranda said.
While some students focus on self-improvement, others intend on using this freedom to relax and spend time with friends and family. Shiza Siddiqui, one of the staff writers in Richland Student Media, plans to reconnect with her roots.
“I plan on visiting Pakistan since I used to live there for six years,” she said. “I’ll be staying with my family in the city of Lahore and meeting up with my old friends,” Siddiqui added.
And with the start of a new year coinciding with the winter break, students already have some resolutions in mind for 2025. Richland Campus SGA senator Kent Ho sets clear goals tied to academic achievement. “I’m hoping to pass college algebra in spring and win the SGA and PTK conferences,” he said.
The diversity of winter break plans reflects the unique personalities and aspirations of the student body at Dallas College.
With so many ways to spend winter break, all students get the chance to recharge and refocus. Whether it’s using this time to tackle personal goals or simply unwind, one thing is clear.
Every student will experience the opportunity to make the most of their winter break.
