The Jeep brand is entering a new U.S. market while also establishing a presence across another segment of the SUV space — the luxury sport market. The 2024 Jeep Wagoneer S Lauch Edition was one of the vehicles shown off during a preview day held before the State Fair of Texas’ opening day Sept. 27.
The mid-size SUV is the first fully eletric Jeep to be sold in North A. It features luxury elements from the current Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer, but in a smaller and sportier package. The Wagoneer S in size is a noticeably different package from Jeep’s largest SUVs, , the full-sized versions of the Wagoneer, which competes with the Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Tahoe and others in the luxury SUV section.
Willam Coughlin, senior brand manager at Jeep, said that while the Wagoneer S is centered around its athletic features, it still preserves the brand’s traditional feel. “The athletic stance is driven really from an aerodynamic perspective, obviously key performance, but what’s great is that underneath, it’s a traditional Jeep.
“This mid-size package just made sense. It was the right fit for the batteries and everything else we needed and that’s how it came together. So, it’s a Jeep Wagoneer S, that’s also a 4Xe, but still ushers us into a new era of electrification,” Coughlin said. The 4xe brand is a relativity new addition to Jeep’s lineup.
It started being seen in Wranglers in 2020, and has since been put into other Jeep SUVs such as the recently discontinued sub-compact Renegade SUV. The first Hybrid-electric vehicle Jeep produced was the 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe. The Jeep Sport’s leather seats showcased at the State Fair Media Day were “Radar Red”, a deep but bright red seat color. It costs an additional $1,000 if consumers don’t want to sport the standard “global black.” The “Baltic Grey” color shown, will cost Launch Edition purchasers $600.
The new Jeep looks something more attuned to SUVs such as the Jaguar F-Pace and Range Rover than a Wagoneer or Jeep Cherokee. The Wagoneer S can go 0 to 60 in 3.4 seconds.
The vehicle is already available and can be reserved at Jeep’s website.
