On Sept. 7, the world was introduced to Apple’s latest lineup from the tech giant in Cupertino, California. The unveiling occurred during Apple’s big event, held annually in September. As expected, a new generation of iPhones was revealed: the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16. Alongside them, Apple also presented the new Apple Watch Series 10, AirPods 4, the Apple Watch Ultra 2 and AirPods Max in new colors.
One of the standout announcements was the introduction of a new AI feature, Apple Intelligence. Over the past few years, AI technology in iPhones has significantly advanced, seamlessly integrating into various functions to enhance the user experience. Apple has focused on several key AI areas, including personalization, energy efficiency and security. However, the announcement of Apple Intelligence takes things even further, innovating many aspects of the user experience. These AI improvements are particularly noteworthy because they redefine how users interact with their devices, creating more personalized and efficient experiences.
One of the favorite features related to this new AI, especially among internet users, is the camera, which now includes the Photonic Engine and Real-Time Rendering. These technologies combine multiple images captured in milliseconds, using AI to enhance details, texture and color. This feature is available for both photography and video in real-time, making one of the most beloved iPhone features even better.
Other exciting Apple Intelligence capabilities include summarizing documents, audio, voice notes and calls. It can even suggest response messages, adjust tone and more. It also features the ability to create images from scratch, identify objects and provide a more conversational Siri. Essentially, features from well-known AIs like ChatGPT and Gram- marly have been integrated into iOS for everyday tasks. Many people are now asking just how effective this new technology will be. While Apple has consistently demonstrated the high quality of its products, positioning itself as one of the most influential brands globally, AI implementation is an area that companies like OpenAI,
Google and Microsoft pioneered less than two years ago. This new technology will only be available on the latest iPhones. It will be rolled out via software updates to more recent models (iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max) through iOS 18.1, but only for users who speak and write in English, which represents less than 7% of iPhone users. It will also be available for Macs produced after 2020, iPad Pros from 2021, and iPad Air models from 2022.
According to Apple’s website, these are the steps to enable Apple Intelligence on your device: After updating to iOS 18.1, go to Settings, tap Apple Intelligence and Siri, then tap Join the Apple Intelligence Waitlist. Apple Intelligence is expected to be available for activation within a few hours of joining the waitlist, though wait times may vary. You will receive a notification as soon as it’s ready for activation on your iPhone. The on-device Apple Intelligence models will begin downloading after activation.
