The League of Women Voters of Dallas has seen a renewed enthusiasm on the Richland Campus as Nov. 5 approaches. The league actively engages students in the voting processand provides information about the electoral process.
“There’s a surprising number of students who think they’re already registered and understand they need to be,” said Kelly Drablos, a representative from the League. “But they should still stop by our tables because we can
walk them through some very useful information.”
Since 2017, Drablos has been involved in tabling efforts at Richland Campus. Though class presentations are no longer an option, the interest from students has increased. The League helps students confirm their voter registration status and teaches them how to share this information with others. They also provide guidance on accessing sample ballots, which Drablos said can be a valuable resource for voters. “I fill mine out and take it under the cape when I go vote,” she said. It’s important to have a printed sample ballot in the voting booth. “You can’t use your phone,” Dana Mathews, another League representative, said.
The League has been collaborating closely with the Student Government Association to maximize its outreach. The group participated in Constitution Day and National Voter Registration Day to offer students the chance to register before the Oct. 7 deadline.
In addition to tabling at El Paso Hall, they have extended their efforts to other locations, like Wichita, to maintain a consistent presence. Students are encouraged to stop by the League’s table for a variety of reasons beyond just registration.
Drablos emphasized the importance of being prepared for election day, including knowing the early voting period, understanding what forms of identification are required in Texas, and what to do if they don’t have a Texas State driver’s license or ID.
“We can talk about how to do research. We remind them about the dates,” Drablos added.
